The Bexhill Amateur Athletic Club was first formed in 1919 over the Windsor Road stables. The group then moved to Mallet Hall as the Mallet Hall Boys Club the following year, 1920. As membership grew, there was a further move to Amherst Road, over Burstow & Hewetts Auction Rooms in 1922 forming the Bexhill Amateur Athletic Club. As the popularity continued, the Club soon needed to think about larger premesis, and in the 1930's, a "Building Fund" was initiated. The site of the Downs Mission room was agreed with the Parochial Church Council of St. Stephens in 1936, and building work commenced the following year. With the outbreak of the war, all building work came to a halt. The Govenment did however agree to let the work be completed on the understanding that it be used by the Civil Defence as part of the war effort. The official opening was in May 1946, when as just one of the sporting sections within the club, the BEXHILL AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB F.C. was first formed, and was a sister Club to BEXHILL TOWN F.C. The two clubs later merged as Bexhill Town Athletic in 1950 through to 1969, and were champions of the Sussex County League in 1956-57, and again in 1965-66 & 1966-67.
The two clubs again merged more recently in 2002 to form Bexhill United, but again separated for the start of the 2005-06 season.
